FAQ

Your questions about training, equipment, nutrition, and membership, answered.

01 WHAT IS JUGS?

JUGS is a strength and conditioning program built around two water-filled jugs. Structured lifting, loaded carries, and conditioning develop strength, grip, endurance, and control.

The 52-week JUGS Challenge includes five workouts per training week, each taking approximately 45 minutes. Your member dashboard brings together assigned workouts, progress tracking, the JUGS Nutrition Method, and JUGS Club.

Medical Disclaimer: Consult your doctor before beginning JUGS or any new exercise program, especially if you have an existing medical condition, injury, or concerns about your ability to exercise safely. Stop exercising and seek medical advice if you experience unusual pain, dizziness, or other concerning symptoms.

02 WHAT IS THE JUGS CHALLENGE?

The challenge contains six eight-week training phases, with five workouts per training week and four full recovery weeks. That is 48 training weeks, 240 workouts, and four recovery weeks across the program.

Progress follows your completed workouts. Check off each workout on its eligible day and see your next session in the dashboard. Missed workouts shift your schedule forward, and required rest remains in place. Finishing can take longer than 52 elapsed weeks.

After completing a phase’s 40 workouts, submit a phase review through My Progress. Approval awards the Jug Collector phase badge and allows progression after any required recovery. Complete all six phases, then request Well Jugged finisher recognition through the separate approval and issuance process.

03 WHAT EQUIPMENT DO I NEED?

A pair of Reliance Jumbo-Tainer 2.0 rectangular, seven-US-gallon, dual-handle water containers, purchased separately, water, and enough clear space for the prescribed movements. Begin with empty jugs to learn their shape and handling, then add water to adjust the load to your ability.

The Jug Fill Calculator is included with free and paid memberships. Estimate the water needed for your chosen weight using your empty jug’s measured weight, then confirm the filled load on a scale. Seven gallons is each container’s capacity.

04 WHY JUGS?

Two water-filled jugs offer more than adjustable weight. Their rectangular shape and dual handles provide multiple grip options and loading positions, while shifting water challenges your grip, stability, and coordination.

JUGS brings those possibilities together in a purpose-built, 52-week strength and conditioning program. Six progressive training phases combine lifts, carries, conditioning, and planned recovery to build your ability to handle repeated physical effort.

05 IS JUGS SAFE FOR BEGINNERS?

Start with JUGS 101 and the equipment and safety guidance. Learn the published Phase 1 movements with empty or lightly filled jugs, and increase the load as your handling and control develop.

Follow the prescribed movement instructions and use a load you can manage with controlled technique. The free membership lets you explore the foundations before joining the full challenge. JUGS provides program instructions and general education, not live supervision or individual coaching.

06 WHAT ABOUT NUTRITION?

The JUGS Nutrition Method brings together nutrition education, recipes, and practical tools to support daily food decisions alongside your training. Free members can explore introductory resources and recipe samples as they are published. Jug Handler adds access to paid recipes and resources, serving adjustments, favorites, meal planning, and shopping lists.

The Food Diary records what you actually eat and drink using manual or label values, published JUGS recipes, or USDA foods. Daily totals summarize your logged intake. Planning a meal does not automatically log it as eaten.

Jug Handler also includes a daily calorie-needs estimate with optional private saved results. Free and paid members can use the adult BMI and Jug Fill calculators. Nutrition tools are optional. Food records and calculator results do not determine training progression or recognition. The BMI calculator is intended for ages 20 and older; the daily calorie-needs calculator is for ages 19 and older and excludes pregnancy and breastfeeding.
